Recovery Coach Boot Camp

  • Reality Check 17 Turnpike Road, Jaffrey, NH Jaffrey, NH, 03452 United States (map)

This training will address substance use disorder as a chronic disease process, identifying appropriate language for professionals to use in order to help reduce barriers and stigma that may be voiced.  Currently there is a diversity of understanding amongst health care professionals often with a lack of understanding on best practices in language and available resources.  This lack of understanding has been demonstrated to: reduce patient access to treatment and recovery pathways, decrease overall health outcomes, and increase recidivism rates of hospital visits.  Health care professionals will increase their competence and skills in providing appropriate support and referrals for healthcare consumers experiencing substance use disorder in the North Country.  as a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the recovery process using the disease model.

  • Understand the spectrum of attitudes that impact recovery.

  • Recall effective communication skills when working with individuals who have Substance Use Disorder.

  • Describe the potential impact of stigma and negative language on individual outcomes.

  • Describe the multiple pathways for recovery, including the potential setbacks individuals may experience as an expected part of the recovery process.

  • Understand the federal guidelines around confidentiality and the importance of establishing a trusting relationship.
