While there are groups and supports for people experiencing the loss of a loved one, death by drug overdose and suicide often creates complicated and unique grieving challenges for survivors. This session will offer a review of challenges and themes in grieving identified by surviving family members. Further, this session will review common tasks and opportunities to foster healing. As a result of this training participants will:
Participants will examine potential challenges in grief when death has resulted from overdose or suicide.
Participants will identify common themes experienced by these groups of mourners.
Participants will explore the recovery tasks and opportunities for survivors.
Participants will acknowledge the need for self-care when providing grief supports.
