This workshop will increase Recovery Support Workers’ ability to identify basic symptoms of major mental health concerns. Mood and anxiety disorders will be a primary focus. The outcome is to understand of how different types of mental health concerns can be addressed effectively to better engage clients in being motivated to pursue their recovery goals. Learning how to best respond to such concerns and monitor how they can impact various parts of the client relationship including boundaries and ethics. As a result of this training participants will be able to:
Identify and understand basic symptoms of anxiety disorders;
Identify and understand basic symptoms of mood disorders;
Have the skills to engage more effectively with clients with such concerns;
Possess knowledge and skills to manage boundaries clearly for clients with such concerns;
Recognize at what point referral for other services is necessary.
